Answer: Although we are nowhere instructed in the Scriptures to pray to Jesus, neither is such a course prohibited in the Scriptures. We know that He loves us and gave Himself for us. He is still “the Shepherd and Bishop” of our souls (1 Peter 2: 25), if we are His sheep (John 10: 11, 15, 27-29). He is still our faithful High Priest, who can be touched with a feeling of our infirmities and who is still ready to succor them that are tempted (Hebrews 4: 15; 2: 18). The disciples worshipped Him (Matthew 28: 9, 17), and the Scriptures show that we may “call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1: 2). There is one case we can think of in which we ought to go to Jesus in prayer, and that would be if we were to sin against Him personally. If this were to happen, as soon as we recognize our transgression, we should immediately go to Him in prayer, confess our wrong, ask for His forgiveness and seek to make amends.

However, it would be a serious error for us to suppose that as God’s consecrated children we ought to address our petitions to our Lord Jesus and not to the Father. We should remember that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father” (James 1: 17), and that “to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him (1 Corinthians 8: 6). God is the fountain of our blessings, and the Lord Jesus is the channel through which they reach us.
