Answer: God created man in His own image, male and female, and ordained that a man should cleave unto his wife, and they should be one flesh (Genesis 1: 27) (Genesis 2: 22-25) (Matthew 19: 4-6). The woman, though a separate human creation, was nevertheless a part of the man. The whole human race is derived, not from an independent duality, but from a unity. Adam and Eve were the complement of each other, and thus were one flesh (compare 1 Corinthians 7: 4), one family.

God sent Adam and his wife happily on the pathway of life. He has never changed that happy relationship in physical respects or otherwise. The one true sexual love, joy and satisfaction comes only to husband and wife wedded in harmony with God’s arrangements, and in a proper family relationship. But contrast that with today. There are currently more than a dozen countries that have passed national laws that allow gays and lesbians to marry, mostly in Europe and the Americas – the so-called Christian nations!

Our Lord foretold that in the day of His appearing at His Second Advent (the day in which we are currently living), conditions would be similar to those in Sodom and Gomorrah in the days of Lot (Luke 17: 28-30). Conditions that existed in Sodom are evident from what is recorded in Genesis 19. Gross sins, including homosexuality and other sex sins characterized Sodom’s society. What is often called “the new morality” is really only the revived old morality that Satan deceived people with in the days of Lot and Abraham, and in the days of Jesus and the Apostle Paul.

Homosexuality is not just an acceptable alternative lifestyle. It is emphatically forbidden by our great Creator, who declares it to be an abomination in His sight: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination” (Leviticus 18: 22). For this great sin the penalty in Israel was death to both offenders: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20: 13).

The New Testament also strongly condemns homosexuality. Please note Romans 1: 22-28, especially verses 26 and 27: “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

What hope is there, then, for any of Father Adam’s fallen race? Thank God that through Christ Jesus, who died for us to pay “the wages of sin” (Romans 6: 23), there is hope for salvation and a better and everlasting life. Homosexuals and others with bad habits repented and were saved in Paul’s day, and the same can be done and is being done today. Note 1 Corinthians 6: 11-20, particularly verse 11: “And such were some of you [before you repented for sin and accepted Jesus as your Savior]: but ye are washed [from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit (2 Corinthians 7: 1)], but ye are sanctified [by full consecration to God], but ye are justified [by the justifying work done by God’s spirit, His disposition, in us] in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

Our heart goes out in compassion for the poor, fallen race, especially for those who by heredity or acquisition have bad habits they are striving to overcome. Those who have been guilty of sexual sins, as well as other sins, should repent of them, ask God’s forgiveness through Christ and then sin no more (John 8: 10, 11).

Let us all come to Jesus for help, remembering that He “is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him” (Hebrews 7: 25), and that He has promised, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12: 9). He died for us and will gladly help us and save us if we repent and call on God through Him (Matthew 11: 28, 29) (Acts 4: 12).
