Question: Why should we expect Christ to reign over the earth?
Answer: The Bible indicates that there are many reasons for Christ’s future reign over the earth. We will give many of them, and cite Scriptural texts as proof:
- To provide for the needs of the race by uplifting all the willing and obedient to physical, mental, moral and religious perfection (Romans 8: 21, 22).
- To exalt the righteous, who have been oppressed (Isaiah 35: 4) (Psalm 37: 7-11) (Psalm 75: 10) (Psalm 107: 41) (Matthew 25: 34, 46).
- To overthrow and destroy Satan’s empire, which has ruled the world with terrible results (Daniel 12: 1) (Matthew 24: 21) (Isaiah 25: 7) (Revelation 11: 15).
- To mete out justice to mankind (Isaiah 26: 9) (Jeremiah 23: 5, 6) (Matthew 10: 42) (Matthew 12: 36).
- To restrain evil and spread good (1 Corinthians 15: 24-26) (Revelation 20: 1-3) (Revelation 21: 4, 5).
- To make it possible for all to receive the benefits of Christ’s death, for He died for all (Hebrews 2: 9) (John 1: 29) (John 12: 32) (1 John 2: 2). History and observation show that not all in this life receive the benefits of Christ’s death, consequently, this can only be brought about through His reign.
- To give the world an opportunity to obtain salvation (1 Timothy 2: 4-6) (Romans 5: 18, 19) (Psalm 22: 27-29) (1 Corinthians 15: 21-26) (Philippians 2: 8-11).
- To minister restitution to the obedient (Acts 3: 19-21).
- To test the world of mankind as to fitness for everlasting life (Revelation 20: 7-9).
- To render and execute final sentence (Matthew 25: 46).
